Just as school starts for the winter term, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement at 4:48 AM on Monday, January 08-2018. Be prepared for a slower morning commute.

Steadily overnight snow has fallen. Accumulation was minimal. The Weather Network forecasts significant snow fall to start at 6:00 AM and taper off around 11:00 AM. A mixture of snow and rain is possible as the temperature hovers around freezing from noon to 3:00 PM. The sun may pop out from 3:00 PM until sunset at 5:00 PM.

Finally temperatures will hover around the freezing point, with wind chills of 6 degrees.

Snow for the back to school commute in Southern Ontario today.

Snow has begun over Southern Ontario and will taper off from west to east today.

Snowfall totals will average about 10 cm with higher amounts to the northeast of the Great Lakes. However, the City of Toronto will see lower snowfall amounts of about 4 to 8 cm.

Untreated roads are expected to be slippery during the morning commute.
