Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement on Tuesday, February 26th at 8:25 AM for Wednesday, February 27th.

A Midwestern front brings snow into Oakville on Wednesday. The snowfall starts by mid-afternoon and tapers off mid to late evening. The most significant accumulation falls over rush hour.

During these weather events, public transit runs a little slower. Roads along with sidewalks are slippery.

Snowplows will be out in full force before the event, and during it. They need room. Don't ever pass a snow plow on the righthand side.

Give yourself plenty of time to get around.

The Town of Oakville's snow plow tracker tells you where roads are clear. You'll also know when your street will be looked after.

Arterial roads are always looked after first. So if possible, you'll want to use them.

Total accumulation is expected to reach between 10 to 15 cm. Oakville may be hit harder, since the north-east wind gathers moisture as it travels over Lake Ontario.

The wind speed will be 30 km/h with gusts reaching into the mid-40's. With gusts at this speed, drifting snow is problematic. White out conditions may occur.

White Out Driving Tips

  1. Reduce your speed slowly
  2. Ensure all your exterior lights are on
  3. Do not use your high beams - they reflect the snow
  4. Use your low beams
  5. Do not attempt to pass another vehicle regardless of their speed
  6. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. Breaking safely takes longer on snow-covered roads.
  7. Do not make quick sudden changes, but rather do everything slowly
  8. If you do need to stop, pull over to safe spot out of the way of traveling vehicles

You should always be in control of your vehicle.

Tomorrow's temperature starts off at minus 6 with a windchill making it feel like minus 15, and stays that way for most of the day.

Due to the low temperatures on February 27th, the snow will be light, so shovel quickly. It  makes life a great deal easier, as snow plows deposit heavier snow at the end of your driveway. That snow is heaver because it is mixed with salt and sand.

The likelihood of this event taking place is 90 per cent.
