The 2016-2017 Halton Guide and Waste Collection Calendar has been mailed to Oakville homes. The new calendar and guide has been redesigned to provide residents with information on many Regional programs and services, and more tips to help residents with their waste reduction efforts. On every page, the new guide provides homeowners with schedules that are conveniently broken down month by month with seasonal household tips. Also, starting in April, bulk waste will be collected more frequently: every other week on the same day as garbage.

The Halton Guide and Waste Calendar is a great tool for residents to get information on our regional programs and services and waste collection, and it is also serves as an important reminder that we can each do our part to preserve Halton’s future. I am very proud of our residents’ impressive waste diversion rate. Since 2008, single-family households have diverted over 60 per cent of their waste from landfill and have extended the life of our landfill site from 2012 to 2044. What we do today matters for tomorrow.

Halton Region is committed to protecting our natural environment through sustainable practices such Blue Box and GreenCart recycling programs, which help reduce the Region’s carbon footprint. Under Halton’s Strategic Action Plan, we are working with residents to increase that number to 62 per cent by 2018. The new guide will help residents put waste in its place by practising the 3R’s (Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.). Preserving Halton today for tomorrow helps ensure a high quality of life in our region.

For more information about waste collection and reduction, refer to the new guide or visit halton.ca/waste. Residents can also sign up for automatic waste collection reminders at any time on Halton’s website.
