Pam Damoff, MP for Oakville North-Burlington and I are pleased to announce the positive impact of the Canada Child Benefit for eligible families in Oakville. The announcement followed the news from Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau that the first payments have been sent to families across the country.

The MPs affirmed that the Government of Canada’s Canada Child Benefit is simpler, tax-free, better targeted, and more generous than the existing child benefits. It will help parents with the high costs of raising their kids and put more money in the pockets of 9 out of 10 Canadian families. It will also lift 300,000 Canadian children out of poverty, so that they can have the chance to reach their full potential.

The CCB is something we’re very excited about. It means more money, tax-free, for families that need it most in Oakville and across the country. We know that parents need help balancing costs while raising their families.

It means lifting children out of poverty to help give them a fair chance.

A single mother earning $35,000 per year who is paying $1200 in rent per month would receive the full benefit of $6,424.36 per year. A family earning $80,000 paying $2,500 in rent per month who have 2 children would receive $5,220.00 per year. To determine how much your family would receive from the Canada Child Benefit Program, the CCB Calculator is available online.

“Today Canadians will begin receiving cheques to help fund the cost of raising their children thanks to the Federal government’s new tax-free Canada Child Benefit. We're putting money in the pocket of Canadian families so they can help their kids go to camp, play sports, buy supplies or clothes for school and will help build an economy that works for middle class Canadians,” commented MP Pam Damoff for Oakville North-Burlington.
