Three of Canada's most influential voices in transportation policy - the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Transport; the Honourable Glen Murray, Ontario's Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure; and Bruce McCuaig, President and CEO of Metrolinx- will speak at Moving Today for Tomorrow. This one day symposium focuses on the challenges and opportunities related to transportation issues and will be hosted by the Oakville Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Engineers of Ontario Oakville Chapter (PEO) on Friday, May 2 at the Oakville Conference Centre.
"Transportation is a multi-faceted issue that affects infrastructure, finance, environment and our quality of life," says PEO Chair Fred Datoo. "We are pleased to be partnering with community and business leaders from CN, Siemens, Hamilton Port Authority, Hatch Mott MacDonald, and the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, to discuss this important issue."
Participants will have the opportunity to hear experts present on safety, trends, innovation, barriers to success, business and engineering opportunities for both the movement of goods and people with a special focus on the GTHA.

This event will take place on Friday May 2nd, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Oakville Conference Centre. The cost is $47.50 until April 18th, and will increase to $60.00 after April 18th. There is a student rate of $30.00.

Keynote Speakers
Lisa Raitt: Federal Minister of Transportation
Lisa Raitt was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008.
Prior to her election to the House of Commons, Ms. Raitt was the president and chief executive officer of the Toronto Port Authority (TPA). She had previously served as the TPA's general counsel and harbourmaster.
As a lawyer, Ms. Raitt specialized in the areas of intellectual property, commercial litigation and shipping arbitration. She is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and holds a Master of Science from the University of Guelph. She earned her law degree from Osgoode Hall at York University.
Ms. Raitt is an active member of her community. She volunteered as a Halton canvasser and fundraiser for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and for her children's hockey, soccer and gymnastics organizations. In 2002, Ms. Raitt was invited to become a member of the Canadian chapter of the worldwide Young Presidents' Organization. Ms. Raitt resides in Oakville. She is married to Dave and they have two children.
Glen Murray: Ontario's Minister of Infrastructure and the Minister of Transportation
Glen Murray was appointed the Minister of Infrastructure and the Minister of Transportation in February, 2013. Minister Murray has had a lifetime of activism in urban planning, sustainable development and community health. He has served on several university, hospital and community boards and is a founding member of the Canadian AIDS Society. Murray served as mayor of the City of Winnipeg from 1998 to 2004. As Chair of the Big City Mayors Caucus, he led the successful campaign to transfer the equivalent of 5 cents per litre of the federal gas tax to municipalities for infrastructure renewal and construction.
In 2004, Murray moved to Toronto and served as Senior Resident at Massey College and a Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Design at the University of Toronto. He was appointed Chair of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy by Prime Minister Paul Martin in 2005. Murray became president and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute in 2007.
Bruce McCuaig: President & CEO of Metrolinx
Bruce McCuaig has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Metrolinx since September 4, 2010.
Bruce began his career in public service in 1984, and has worked in areas involving land use planning and policy, municipal policy, and transportation planning, policy and operations over the intervening years. He served in various capacities at the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for 10 years, as well as serving 15 years at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. His final role at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation was Deputy Minister, responsible for leading the 4,000 public servants dedicated to ensuring Ontario's transportation was efficient in safely moving people and goods across the Province. As President & CEO of Metrolinx, Bruce is building a team that is committed to transforming transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, by building a customer service emphasis throughout the organization, delivering quality transportation services on time and on budget, and working collaboratively with our partners. Delivering on the promise of The Big Move, our award-winning regional transportation plan, is central to everything the organization does, and is demonstrated by our focus on growing GO Transit, delivering the Pearson Air Rail Link, deploying PRESTO, the regional smart card fare payment system, and building new transit services across the region. Bruce graduated from Ryerson University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Urban and Regional Planning) degree, and from Queen's University in 2000 with a Master of Public Administration degree.
