Winter isn't leaving, or so it seems. Environment Canada issued a Winter Storm Watch at 10:51 AM on Monday, February 11, 2019 for February 12th.
The snow starts falling early Tuesday morning. The morning commute is going to be a mess.
Temperatures hover around the freezing mark for most of the day, and with that comes the possibility of ice rain. The ice rain could last well into Tuesday evening. By Wednesday morning the temperature should rise above the freezing mark.
The greatest snow accumulation occurs late Tuesday morning thru early afternoon. It is possible we may see 9 cm of the white stuff in just a few hours.
An east wind brings with it significant accumulation for Oakville as the wind picks up moisture off the open lake. The gusts are forecast to reach from low 60's to upper 70's. Strong winds may translate into white outs.
Environment Canada only issues a winter storm watch when 15 to 20 cm of snow/ice pellets/ice rain combined with strong winds is forecast.
With weather like this keep in mind that you could be facing power outages. Road surfaces, parking lots, and side walks turn into ice rinks.
Keep your shovel and salt handy. I also keep my gas tank full.
Driving in these conditions is never pleasant, and rush hour traffic is particularly unpleasant. You might want to consider working from home. With this weather forecast, children may be at home.
