The Halton Regional Police Service is currently investigating a series of recent entries to homes in the Palermo community of North Oakville.

The entries have mainly occurred during the overnight hours when residents have been sleeping. The suspects have been entering through unlocked rear patio doors, or by cutting screens to rear or side windows and gaining access. Items stolen have included laptops, TVs, and any accessible cash. On one occasion suspects removed car keys from a home and stole a vehicle from the front driveway.

Investigators believe the same suspects may be responsible for these entries and are warning people to be vigilant about securing their homes when heading out for the evening and while sleeping during the overnight hours.

Some preventative measures include:

  1. Ensure patio doors and windows are properly secured.
  2. Utilize existing alarm systems and motion lights if in place.
  3. Report suspicious persons or vehicles to police including individuals canvassing ‘door to door’ without proper identification being displayed.
  4. When away from home for a period of time ensure the property is checked regularly for any suspicious activity.
  5. If a potential suspect is encountered on a property, do not engage the suspect but call police immediately.

Anyone with information pertaining to any of these entries is asked to call the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825 4747 ext. 2255 / 2216 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 222 8477 (TIPS), or through the internet at, or by texting “Tip201” with your message to 274637 (crimes).
