Career Development and Volunteerism

Becoming a volunteer can be a very rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to help make a positive change in your community; to improve your skills while learning new ones; to invest your time doing something helpful and beneficial; and most importantly, to help those who need you most.

Volunteering can also lead to later employment opportunities. It is a great way to gain Canadian experience, which you can later add to your resume. This is especially beneficial for newcomers to Canada, who may lack Canadian work experience. It can also allow you to network with new organizations.

Through volunteering, you can make new friends, meet new people and get to know your community better.

If you want to volunteer but don’t know where to start, then come out to a free volunteer fair hosted by the Newcomer Information Centre on Friday, September 20, 2013.

The fair will be held from 10am until 1pm. Habitat for Humanity, SAVIS, ETAG and Volunteer Halton will be readily available to provide more information and resources about volunteer opportunities in Oakville.

This event is targeting newcomers and immigrants to Canada; however anyone and everyone are welcome to stop by and join in. This is a great chance to network, meet volunteer organizations, and get connected in the community!

The fair will begin at 10am with short presentations from each participating agency. From 10:30 am until 1pm, representatives will be available to meet you one-on-one and answer all your volunteer questions.

The volunteer fair will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at The Newcomer Information Centre, located at 171 Speers Rd, Suite 20, Oakville.
