Over 800 skilled and motivated job seekers met with 43 employers from across Halton at Halton Region’s annual job fair on October 16. This year’s job fair included 43 employers from a range of industries including technology, government, manufacturing, retail, hospitality sector and healthcare sectors. Halton Region’s Economic Development Strategy has been successful in attracting new business to Halton. Halton’s unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2013 remained historically low at 4 per cent, markedly lower that the region’s five year average unemployment rate of 5.6 per cent and significantly lower than the provincial rate of 7.5 per cent.
“Halton Region is committed to initiatives that attract jobs to Halton and support employers to invest our region,” said Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Through our Employment Halton service, local employers receive assistance with their hiring needs. This is one of many services we offer that make Halton a great place to establish a business.”
Attracting and retaining jobs as well as improving access to services that assist people to find employment in Halton are important actions in Halton’s Citizens’ Priorities Action Plan. Halton Region’s annual job fair along with other job fairs supported by the Region throughout the year is helping job seekers connect with employers in Halton who are hiring.
Employment Halton provides a range of employment and training services for job seekers and employers. All services are free. One-to-one support is offered to job seekers at employment resource centres in Oakville and Milton. Employers benefit from one-to-one support with their hiring and training needs as well as access to the online job posting site Haltonjobs.ca.
