Oakville projects showcasing excellence in urban design, heritage and green building will be honoured this November at the town’s Livable by Design Awards celebration. Think you know great urban design when you see it? You be the judge! Cast your vote for the Livable by Design Citizens’ Choice Award online or in person at Town Hall between September 30 and October 30, 2013.
“We’ve received many diverse submissions for the Livable by Design Awards. Submissions range from commercial and office buildings to community facilities and private residences,” said Mayor Rob Burton. “The variety of entries will make it a great competition to see which project wins the Citizens’ Choice Award.”
A photo gallery of all submissions can be reviewed on the Livable by Design Citizens' Choice Award page or at Town Hall just inside the main entrance. Explore the impressive gallery, read about the submitted projects and then cast a vote for your favourite project. Limit one vote per person.
In addition to the Citizens’ Choice Award, a Livable by Design Award of Excellence will be presented to the project that epitomizes design excellence and achieves the highest score according to the award evaluation criteria. Other outstanding projects will receive a Livable by Design Award of Distinction.
The Award of Excellence and Awards of Distinction are judged by a Selection Committee comprised of Paul Bedford, principal at Paul Bedford & Associates and Adjunct Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Toronto; Ralph Giannone, principal at Giannone Petricone Associates Inc. Architects and a member of the City of Toronto Design Review Panel; Chris Hardwicke, senior associate at Sweeny Sterling Finlayson & Co Architects and a member of the Downsview Park Design Review Panel; Glenn O’Connor, an award-winning landscape architect and and current Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Board Member; and Julian Ryder, a retired architect and member of the Heritage Oakville Committee.

The Selection Committee looks for outstanding entries that meet criteria including:
- integration with surroundings
- supporting sustainability and green building practices
- showing creativity and innovation
- preserving cultural and natural resources
