Canterbury is now the only Canadian specialty coffee roaster with roasting capabilities on both sides of the nation. Canterbury Coffee Corporation recently purchased a state-of-the-art roasting facility in Oakville, Ontario. Possession of the 41,000 square foot facility took place in early July. Cantebury's new facility is located at 2830 Plymouth Drive, Oakville. There will not be a warehouse on the property but their products are available at 1000's of food service outlets. They are looking forward to opening up their first account in Oakville. Cafes of Oakville, who is going to be the first to welcome our newest business.

This another positive growth business for Oakville. Most of the staff are relocating from their current Toronto branch. Having just hired a few new employees, Canterbury will be looking for more employees as production gets going. Continue to check their careers section of our website: www.canterburycoffee.com

Pioneers of fair trade, organic, and single-origin coffees, Canterbury is truly a Canadian success story. Moving into a custom-built 114,000 square foot office and warehouse in Burnaby, BC, earlier this year, now, Canterbury has outgrown their west coast roasting plant. With newly launched products like OneCoffee, the world’s first organic and fairtrade biodegradable single-serve cup and Singolo, an Italian designed espresso machine with biodegradable capsules, Canterbury takes the lead in innovation and sustainability.

“This exciting acquisition allows Canterbury to offer locally roasted specialty coffees to the east and ultimately enables us to serve customers better,” remarks Eric Lightheart, Senior Vice-President. “Fresher coffee, more sustainable options, and a reduction in our carbon footprint are addressed with this new plant.” Hiring, infrastructure, and transition will take place immediately with the first Oakville roast slated to begin in mid-August. Coffee aromas fill the air!

Canterbury makes a point to be active in all the communities we are located in. As we get to know Oakville better, we will no doubt find a way to get involved and to see how Canterbury can contribute as a responsible corporate citizen.  -Shelaine Chu, Manager of Communications and PR
