Nolan Machan was my 'guilty pleasure'

Ever since I can remember, I've loved publishing. As a small boy, I would make comics and write stories and then sell copies to my friends.

By the time I was 13, I had a paid column in a local newspaper (I was living in Sudan, Africa at the time, and my pitch letter was well received by the Editor who liked the idea of a young boy in a 'fish out of water' scenario.)

But I digress, for more than 40 years, I have, in some way or another, worked in publishing. So it was with a fair amount of glee, actually, more a "guilty pleasure," that I was able to get Nolan Machan, the Editor of OakvilleNews.org as a guest on the Smartcar Coffee Confidential show.

I love talking with creatives in the publishing industry, and Nolan Machan did not disappoint. His passion for the Oakville community, his love of life, his commitment to coverage - not to mention our shared passion for all things food - made for an entirely enjoyable conversation.

Although each episode runs for 14 minutes, Nolan and I sat and chatted for over an hour! And while I would love to share it all with you, the job of an editor is to pick and choose the best parts, and fingers-crossed, I did just that.

Here's Nolan's Smartcar Coffee Confidential interview, I hope you enjoy watching it as much I enjoyed filming it.
