Starting on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 the work begins on the reconstruction and streetscape project for Lakeshore Road East in Downtown Oakville. Union gas starts installing new gas lines on each side of Lakeshore from Navy Street to Dunn Street.
Stores, cafes, and restaurants will stay open during the project.

The town will hold three information sessions on Thursday March 14th. Staff will share the latest news with residents and businesses about the Reconstruction and Streetscape Project.

- 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The meetings take place at the Project Office at 193 Church Street, the former site of the Post Office.

Streetscape Changes
Lakeshore Road in Downtown Oakville has come to the end of its lifespan. Major infrastructure was necessary. It made sense to upgrade.
Town staff consulted with specialists, residents and businesses to created the new plan.
The work will not only allow the trees to grow unimpeded, but the widening of sidewalks will allow restaurants and cafes to create outdoor spaces. The new outdoor patios will not impede pedestrians or take up needed parking spaces. Cars and bicycles can co-exist.
Council approved the Downtown Transportation and Streetscape Study in November 2015. At that time Council also approved the timing for the Lakeshore Road reconstruction and Streetscape. They agreed that work start in 2019. The work takes place in two phases.

Phase 1 in 2019 (spring to fall) — between Navy and Dunn streets
Phase 2 in 2020 (spring to fall) — between Dunn and Allan streets

Digital Main Street Grant Program
Businesses can apply for the Digital Transformation Grant. It provides $2,500 to each qualifying business. The funds allow businesses to purchase and adopt digital tools and technologies. There are only 2,000 one-time grants, so apply now at digitalmainstreet.ca/ontario.
