Women in Gov | Halton Region

Women play an important role in governing our municipalities, regions, provinces and country. To emphasize their role the Region will host a Women in Gov workshop on Saturday, March 3rd. The workshop will feature informative presentations about the role of women in public sector positions, as well as their role as elected officials.

The event features a number of community leaders including Regional Councillor Blair Lancaster and Regional Chair Gary Carr. Councillor Lancaster is a Regional representative at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities where she participates on the Standing Committee on Increasing Women´s Participation in Municipal Government to seek and support initiatives to increase women´s political participation in municipal government.

“It is very important for women to be involved in all aspects of civic life,” said Regional Councillor Blair Lancaster. “International Women’s Day provides a great opportunity to come together to discuss women’s participation in local government and to learn about the opportunities available for women seeking a career as a public servant or elected official. By sharing information and ideas we can encourage more women to get involved.”

Women in Gov workshop includes presentations, a panel discussion, a planning exercise and mock Council meeting in Council Chambers. Seating is limited—there is currently a waitlist but anyone interested in attending is encouraged to register.

Women in Gov workshop will take place that the Halton Regional Centre. It is free, and will start at 8:30 AM and end at 2:00 PM. To take part participants must register by Friday, February 23, 2018.

This is one of a number of events taking place in the Halton Region in honour of International Women’s Day. Thursday, March 8th is the official date of International Women’s Day 2018.
