The Oakville Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce that we are holding our gala fundraiser, Serenade by the Lake, on Sunday, July 26 at the beautiful Holcim Estate at 2700 Lakeshore Rd West.

This lakeside gala is in support of the Oakville Chamber Orchestra Youth Program which includes the Youth Concerto Competition and the Oakville Public Library Cushion Concerts. The Youth Concerto Competition celebrates excellence in student musical achievement and is now entering its 4th year. Our OPL cushion concerts are free interactive concerts, based on literary classics, that introduce children of all ages to classical music and musical instruments. Both of these programs are presented by Manulife Securities.

Spend a elegant summer afternoon with the musicians, friends and patrons of the OCO. You will enjoy delicious food and wine, and be entertained by performances from our past Youth Concerto Competition winners Emma Meinrenken (violin), Leslie Bickle (soprano), and our two past winners from Oakville, Tessa Laengert-Ruta (soprano) and Leslie Ashworth (violin). In addition, we will be treated to a performance by our very own concertmaster, the Juno award-winning Alex Gajic and his band.

A very special part of the concert program is the performance of work by Oakville’s very own Amice Calverley, an adventurer and Egyptologist, and the aunt of Sybil Rampen. Ms. Calverley went to Egypt in 1927 and was renowned for her archaeological illustrations. Ms. Calverley played the piano and would host chamber music events in her home that were the talk of the town. Amice Calverley died in 1959. This is a rare opportunity to hear her music performed live, featuring Tessa Laengert-Ruta, soprano.

Join us for the afternoon and help support the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, one of Oakville’s finest community music organizations now in its 33rd year! The much needed revenues from your ticket purchase are being generously matched by OCO patron Hugo Powell. Please support us and we will help us continue to bring the joy of music to our children.

Tickets are $100 and can be purchased online at http://www.oakvillechamber.org/event/serenade-by-the-lake
