Oakville News
Oakville Transit will be changing all bus route schedules effective Saturday, August 30, 2014, to help riders make their connections to and from the GO train when the new Lakeshore West train schedule also goes into effect that day.
Oakville Transit’s service enhancements include coordinated connections for customers taking the GO train both east and west of Oakville, and more time for connections at GO stations during off-peak hours.
“Council sees public transportation as a convenient and green way for residents to get around town,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “Our transit route schedules are being updated to facilitate Oakville residents making their connections with GO Transit’s new train schedules.”
During most off-peak hours, the new bus schedules will lessen the impact of delays and ensure riders can make a connection within 15 minutes.
When a bus route is running on hourly service, customers are encouraged to plan ahead and choose the train that provides the fastest connection to the next available bus leaving the GO station in Oakville.
Other than some adjusted times, service will remain the same for rush hour travellers making their connections within a few minutes of arriving at the GO station.
“Service coordination is very important to our customers — both commuters and occasional riders,” said Barry Cole, director of Oakville Transit. “Our new bus schedules will help reduce the stress of making a connection during off-peak hours, especially when there has been a train or bus service delay. This change also provides persons with accessibility issues extra time to travel comfortably and worry-free.”
GO Transit announced recently that it would be making schedule adjustments to the Lakeshore West GO Train service schedule, effective Saturday, August 30, 2014. For more information, visit gotransit.com.
