The Sheridan College Athletics and Recreation Department announced today that they will host the 2014 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Soccer National Championship November 5-8, 2014 at the recently renovated Sheridan Stadium in Oakville.

“We couldn’t be more elated to be hosting this event,” added Maria Lucido-Bezley, Sheridan’s Dean of Student Services. “We have one of the finest facilities in the country and we are looking forward to welcoming student-athletes from across the country to it. More importantly though, we’re eager to be able to share such a high-quality event with our student body, as well as the broader community here at Sheridan and in the regions of Halton and Peel.”
Sheridan’s bid for hosting the championship was first approved by the membership of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) at their annual general meeting in early May, before ratification by the CCAA last week.
The four day event will require the eventual national champion to win three games in four days, with the quarter-finals slated for November 5, the semi finals to follow on November 6 and the national championship game on November 8.
There will also be soccer played on November 7, when the bronze medal semi finals will take place.
Renovations to Sheridan Stadium saw the installation of FIFA level one turf, covered seating for 1,000 and new change rooms.
While Sheridan has hosted the CCAA national championship in other sports previously -- men’s basketball in 1987 and 2006; men’s volleyball in 1992; and women’s volleyball 1993 -- this will be the first time they have hosted the soccer championship.
