Every year, our office runs a challenge to encourage community spirit and to acknowledge local businesses, called the 2017 Business Improvement Area Flag Challenge , which were award in Lakeside Park in Olde Oakville.

Canadian flags were handed out to the Business Improvement Areas of Kerr Village, Bronte Village, and Downtown Oakville so that stores can put them in their window fronts. This year, there were a total of 320 businesses who participated.

The BIA with the highest participation rate wins an overall award. The 2017 winner was Downtown Oakville, with a total participation of 61%, which equated to 113 stores participating.

In honour of Canada and Ontario’s 150th, one store in each BIA with the most impressive window front display received a ‘150 Creativity Award’. The winners of the 150 Creative Prizes were the Lakeshore Road Animal Hospital from Bronte Village, Lucy’s Boutique and Alterations from Kerr Village, and Art Lee Men’s Wear from Downtown Oakville.

As you walk around town, seeing Canada Flags in every window provides a sense of unity and collaboration within our community. No matter who you are, what your profession is, or where you come from, seeing a Canadian flag reminds people of how welcoming Oakville is and that this is your home.

To all the participating businesses this year, thank you for participating in the 2017 Business Improvement Area Flag Challenge.
