Paul Saltzman: The Beatles in India speaks on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00 PM

This is presented by the Oakville Centre, Oakville Public Library, and Different Drummer Books.

The historic meeting of The Beatles, the Maharishi and Paul Saltzman in 1968 through photos, videos and stories.

Paul Saltzman came to the ashram to heal a broken heart. He found the Beatles there and spent a week with them. Now you can experience the photos he took there and the stories that go with them. Why were John, Paul, George and Ringo there?

They came to go deeper into meditation. And, India was their single most creative period as they wrote 48 songs in less than 7 weeks at the ashram.

Kim Mitchell will perform Thursday, April 5th at 8:00 PM.

Singer-songwriter and guitarist, Kim Mitchell, has achieved gold and multi-platinum sales status over a long and storied career, starting early on as leader of the musically eclectic Max Webster, a band who in the late 70s defined “alternative” and “independent” long before the words became clichés.

Mitchell has sold over 1.5 million recordings and toured regularly over a lengthy solo career that remains creatively vibrant to this day.

Children

Polar Bears Go Up will be performed on Friday, April 5th at 6:30 PM. The performance is recommended for children aged 2 to 5.

A fun, surreal and highly enjoyable theatrical treat for young adventurers. The Polar Bears are moving up in the world. They’ve lost their balloon and need to get it back. It’s time to get up, step up, climb up, jump up. These two lovable Polar Bears are intrepid explorers, famous for their wild expeditions. This time they’ll be climbing trees, jumping on clouds and reaching for the stars as they race all the way up to space. Of course, they’ll stop for sandwiches on the way!

Musical Tales will be performed by the Oakville Symphony Saturday April 7th at 8:00 PM and the 9th at 2:00 PM

Kiran Ahluwalia presents LOVEFEST - Welcome the Stranger will be performed on Thursday, April 12th at 8:00 PM.

A musical response to hate crime

An eclectic celebration of love featuring music and dance. Artists include Sikh spiritual songs from Bhai Kabul Singh, Tanoura Sufi dance from the Abul Gheit Whirling Dervishes of Egypt, and two contemporary musical groups Kiran Ahluwalia – a Canadian Grammy Award winning vocalist and Souad Massi, one of the most recognized singer-songwriters from the Arab world.

Ticket price per person is $58.00.

Children

Around the World with Vernon Rabbit performed by the Oakville Symphony will take place on Saturday, April 14th at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

Join us as we explore and learn through an inter-active half hour program design to educate and entertain children ages 4-10 years. There is no cost, but space is limited, so get your tickets early.

Tickets are complimentary and there is a maximum of 2 adults per reservation.

Oakville Symphony Friends : Past and Present will perform on Saturday, April 14th at 8:00 PM.

This is a 80 minute concert of music from both past and current muscicians connected to the Oakvillle Symphony. There will be vocal and instrumental performances. Check closer to the event date for a line up of performers.

Young People's Concert will perform on Saturday, April 14th at 2:00 PM.

This is an annual one-hour concert geared towards children aged 5-12 years of age. Children will listen and learn from performances by the full orchestra and special guest young musicians.

Theatre

Little Shop of Horrors presented by the Burl-Oak Theatre Group from April 18th to 21st at 8:00 PM. There are afternoon performances at 2:00 PM on April 21st and 22nd.

Music by Alan Menken and Lyrics by Howard Ashman

Little Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names "Audrey II" after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD.

Carl Dixon will perform on Saturday, April 21st at 8:30 PM.

Carl Dixon is best known as lead singer of The Guess Who and one of Canada’s stellar rock musicians. He cut his first international record deal with Coney Hatch in the 1980s and went on to become lead singer of Canada’s most iconic bands. He recorded, toured and played with April Wine for four years and has been at the forefront of hard rockers Coney Hatch for three decades. Join Carl as he sings songs from all three bands.

Roseanne Barr will perform on Wednesday, April 25th at 8:00 PM

Why Roseanne Barr? Because she’s a comedy superstar, an award winning actress and a best-selling author. Because she spent nine years (and 224 episodes) making us laugh weekly on the Emmy Award®winning sitcom, Roseanne. Because she’s gives great constructive criticism to comedians as a judge on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Alejandra Ribera & Alex Cuba will perform on Thursday, April 26th at 8:00 PM.

The award-wining songwriter Alejandra Ribera offers her trademark heart-breaking lyrics that cut to the quick with love songs, swelling and subsiding in lush waves of strings, acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies.

Alex Cuba is a Latin Grammy/Juno winner, singer-songwriter. His sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and powerful guitar riffs, relinquish a conventional stereotype that exemplifies much of the Latin music landscape.

The Lonely - Celebrating the Music of Roy Orbison will be performed on Friday, April 27th at 7:30 PM.

Rock.It Boy Entertainment proudly presents THE LONELY - CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF ROY ORBISON, with hits of The Traveling Wilburys and Everly Brothers. THE LONELY approaches the music with a humble spirit and sincere desire to recreate the sounds and feel of the original recordings. The band has been selling out shows right from their debut.

Most of the April 2018 Oakville Centre performances will take place in the main auditorium. Tickets for February 2018 can be purchased at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Art's Box office located at 146 Navy Street. Box Office hours are from Monday to Friday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturday from 1:00 PM to the beginning of a performance. Tickets are also available online.
