"At Home in Bronte": Paint a Chair for Canada Day

The Bronte Village BIA is pleased to announce the launch of its At Home in Bronte, Perspectives & Reflections public art initiative. This exciting community art project has been made possible through the receipt of an Ontario150 grant.

“With the support of the Ontario150 grant program, the At Home in Bronte public art initiative will engage Oakville's youth and diverse community groups while encouraging cultural expression in celebration of Ontario's 150th anniversary,” stated Kevin Flynn, MPP for Oakville

At Home in Bronte will harness community creativity to tell the story of both Canada’s and Ontario’s history in Oakville through the community design and painting of 60 Muskoka chairs. The painted chairs will be installed for public viewing and enjoyment in Bronte Village, Oakville on Canada Day’s July 1st celebration.

Local organizations, artists, businesses and families are invited to submit an application to paint a chair by Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 4 p.m. A chair and basic painting supplies will be provided to successful chair-painting applicants.

Chair Painter Applications can be downloaded from the Bronte Village BIA’s website at brontevillage.net/athomeinbronte.

Applicants are encouraged to use their imagination, creativity and national pride to develop a creative chair design and application. Guiding themes for the design of the chairs include the following:

Celebration — reflecting on 150 years of achievements

Participation — acknowledging community engagement, volunteerism

Innovation — inspiring tomorrow’s leaders

Successful applicants will be notified during the week of May 1st.

A series of community Paint Days have been scheduled to allow families, businesses and organizations the opportunity to come together and paint their chairs. The chairs and all materials will be provided. More information about the Paint Days and the At Home in Bronte project is available online.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Bronte, have a seat in one of the many chairs on display and make themselves at home.

The Bronte Village BIA encourages all of Oakville to participate in this community-wide initiative through social media using hashtag #AtHomeinBronte. For more details about the project and how to apply to paint a chair, visit www.brontevillage.net/athomeinbronte.
