#AtHomeinBronte Muskoka Chair Designs Inspired!

The Bronte Village BIA was thrilled to receive an overwhelming response to its call for submissions to paint a Muskoka chair for the At Home in Bronte, Perspectives & Reflections public art initiative. Local families, artists, businesses and charitable organizations answered the BIA’s call to submit unique and creative designs for a chair that conveys their perspective on Canada’s and Ontario’s history in Oakville, and celebrates the diversity of this community.

After carefully reviewing the submissions, the Bronte Village BIA project committee selected 60 chair design proposals that portray the cultural and historical achievements of Oakville, Ontario and Canada in a creative and engaging way. Among the early selected submissions are designs by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton, Oakville Community Foundation, Bronte Historical Society, Oakville Art Society, Oakville Public Library, Town of Oakville Mayor Rob Burton’s office, Canadian Association for Girls in Science, Oakvillegreen Conservation Association, Arthouse, Oakville Community Foundation and many other great Oakville groups. The committee was also struck by the talent shown by several young children.

We were so pleased by the beautiful chair designs created by our great community of Oakville. We are thankful to the government of Ontario for the Ontario150 funding that enables us to bring together and celebrate the impressive talents and national pride of so many families, artists, and organizations for the At Home in Bronte initiative.

Approximately two-thirds of the chair designs will be painted at community Paint Days held at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. The Paint Day participants will be provided with all supplies to build and execute their design during their scheduled day.

The painted Muskoka chairs will be installed for public viewing and enjoyment in Bronte Village, Oakville on Canada Day’s July 1st celebration and remain in place until Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Bronte, take a seat in one of the many chairs on display and make themselves at home in beautiful Bronte.

The Bronte Village BIA encourages all of Oakville to participate in this community-wide initiative through social media using hashtag #AtHomeinBronte.
