The celebration of Black History Month 2014 kicked-off on February 5th at town hall. Those in attendance were treated to an impromptu spoken word performance by Master of Ceremonies Greg Frankson who is the resident poet for CBC Radio One's Here & Now programme.
Muhtadi, Canada's premier percussionist took the stage an wowed us, but the true tour de force was a spectacular performance by Ballet Creole. They danced to the sounds of dynamic drumming while taking the audience along a melange of traditional African and Caribbean movements in "Tapestry".
Combined with the live performances was a graphically stimulating art show (which will be up at Town Hall until February 14th), as well as Oakville Museum's display of local black history. Here is a list of the other local events celebrating Black History:
