Chocolate, Wine, Valentine: Oakville Sommelier

For many people Valentine’s Day would not be Valentine’s Day without chocolate, a traditional gift. And for me, it would not be right without wine and/or cocktails as well! Here is a run-down of ideas for both your sweet-tooth and your sweetheart.

Sparkling wine, in particular Champagne, and Rosé wine are typical choices for the occasion. But why not get the festivities started with a cocktail instead? The Ice House in Niagara-on-the-Lake gives you a different take on the Cosmopolitan with their Icewine Cosmos Cocktail recipe incorporating Northern Ice Cabernet Sauvignon Icewine into this classic - good for your heart. If you are nearby, stop in to try The Ice House Slushy!

The Chocolate Raspberry Lindtini looks decadently delicious. Did you know that Lindt has an outlet boutique in Oakville at 3487 Wyecroft Road? They also have a comprehensive website with an interactive page, Secrets of Chocolate, that tells you about the history of chocolate, tasting chocolate, recipes, and more.

Another cocktail idea comes from Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut, a chocolate martini using their semi-sweet or bitter sweet chocolate. In 1983 their first chocolate shop opened in Calgary. They have locations in five provinces including an Oakville location at 194 Lakeshore Road East.

Found on the BuzzFeed Food website: 27 Chocolate Desserts That Make Valentine’s Day Worth Celebrating. They say, “Remember: Feb. 14 is the only day of the year when it’s acceptable to eat nothing but chocolate. Take advantage.” If you were not a chocolate lover before, their photos and dessert recipes might just change your mind. The Darkest Chocolate Cake with Red Wine Glaze, Cabernet Chocolate Truffles, and Dark Chocolate Fudge Merlot Cupcakes all look like winners to me.

Looking for locally made chocolate? Circus Chocolates & Ice Cream at 109 Thomas Street has received rave reviews for their decadent chocolate creations. You are sure to find something there for all the loves in your life.

So there you have it: Chocolate, Wine, Valentine

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!
