This summer, the Oakville Museum unveils over 150 years of charming wedding fashions in a new exhibition entitled: Crème de la Crème. Drawing from the Oakville Museum's extensive costume collection, this exhibition explores how bridal fashion ultimately reflects the period in which it was worn.

In any era, fashion is a reflection of what is happening socially, politically and economically within a culture. The wedding dress is no exception. Even though the wedding dress is a garment imbued with tradition, meaning and sentimentality, bridal fashion has always followed mainstream fashion to some extent.

On display are the Museum's crème de la crème. The most romantic, glamorous and extravagant wedding dresses from the Oakville Museum's rich costume collection. Each silhouette and style on display reflects not only the bride's personality and vision at a moment in time, but also the style and mood of the era in which they were worn.

Wedding season is upon us and I am sure that visitors will enjoy seeing the amazing changes that have occurred in wedding fashions over the past 15 decades. These 35 special gowns truly are the cream of our bridal collection.

Oakville Museum’s Crème de la Crème Exhibition runs until August 30th, 2015 in the Main Gallery at QEPCCC, 2302 Bridge Road, Oakville.
