The Oakville Museum would like to borrow your well worn clothing for a new temporary exhibit. From Work Wear to Everywhere: The Story of Denim show will be in the main gallery at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC). The exhibit takes place this summer.
From its humble origins as sturdy work pants for miners, denim has become a staple fabric. Do you have a favourite pair of jeans, shorts, overalls, or even a dress lurking in your closet? You can’t bring yourself to throw it away. The Oakville Museum would love to hear from you.
The museum staff will return all items.
Denim is such a universal fabric. It can be found in just about any type of clothing.
We want to tell the stories of people’s denim from a number of angles, not just fashion, but also the environmental, social and political aspects of this hardworking fabric.
It is going to be a fun exhibit. We look forward to borrowing an array of denim garments from Oakville residents.
Whether your old pair of jeans, shorts, overalls, and dresses are a treasure or a humorous memento, we look forward to hearing your personal denim story.
Residents can drop-off their special pieces at QE Park Community and Cultural Centre on Friday, April 5th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday, April 6 from noon to 3 p.m.
Museum staff will arrange to return your items following the exhibit, which runs from July 10th – September 1st.
