The Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School Music Department celebrated their 13th Annual Spring Music Night on Thursday, May 21, 2015 in the school theatre. The Senior Concert Band, Jazz Band, Grade 10 Repertoire, Grade 11 and 12 Repertoire, as well as Grade 10 and 11 Guitar classes all performed a wonderful variety of musical selections for the crowd.

Special guests in the lineup this year were the Halton JAZZ Singers (HJC Singers), under the Direction of Darcea Hiltz, Founder of HJC Singers. Musical artists performed popular era tunes, including "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Lullaby of Broadway".

In addition, Director of the Holy Trinity Music Department, Mr. Kevin Harkin, had his Grade 11 and 12 Repertoire class accompany the singers during the performances.

"I am really proud of my students for taking on this challenge," says Mr. Harkin. "Their playing showed a great deal of musical maturity. These two selections are professional arrangements and require some real technical ability from all the performers."

The idea of connecting with a community organization such as the Halton JAZZ Singers, was initiated by one of Mr. Harkin's students, whose father is a member of the HJC. "I knew that it would be a challenge but I also knew that it would be well worth the extra rehearsal time and organization of schedules," says Mr. Harkin.

The entire evening was a fabulous blend of classical, jazz and contemporary music, explained Mr. Harkin. "I want to express my gratitude to all my students, for putting on a great show. They worked really hard for this evening and the months of practice have paid off."
