The January 2019 Oakville Centre performances usher in the New Year. Right from the start, the performing arts centre's January performances focus on children with three unique shows, some are only for students.

Sing-a-long-a The Sound of Music
Is a great way to end the winter break. Recommended for ages 8 and up. There are two performances on Saturday January 5th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Get ready to yodel in Oakville! Sing-a-long to the most successful movie musical of all time.
This is one of the funniest, most liberating nights out you will have for a long time. Experience this magical movie on the big screen, while you sing-a-long. To make singing easier the movie will run with subtitles.
Sing along with Julie! Wave your Edelweiss! Dance in the gazebo with Liesl ! Bark at Rolf! Snuggle up with Gretel and join in earnest choruses of "My Favorite Things"!

The Ladies Foursome
Written by Norm Foster and presented by West End Studio Theatre. They perform on Wednesday, January 9th thru Saturday, January 12th at 8:00 PM, along with a matinée on Sunday, January 13th at 2:00 PM
"The Ladies Foursome" is a female version of "The Foursome", but with a completely different story.
It's the day after the funeral of a friend, and three women gather for a round of golf in honour of their recently deceased playing partner. They are joined by a fourth woman, another old friend of the deceased that the other three didn't know about. During the round the women discuss life, love, men, sex, children, careers... everything but golf.
Many surprises, secrets and confessions come to the surface during this hilarious and heart-warming round of golf.

Visions of Turtle Island
This is a school performance for Grade 8 students sponsored by the Oakville Community Foundation. The Tribal Vision Dance performs on Monday, January 14th at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 15th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and Wednesday, January 16th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Visions of Turtle Island includes:
- live singing
- dancing
- video and image presentations
These explain the cultural experiences of Canada's First Nations peoples.
After the 50 minute show the performers answer questions.

Upright Citizens Brigade: Touring Company
The company performs on Thursday, January 17th 8:00 PM
They bring the best improv comedians from the legendary Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres to audiences from across the country. The show is 90-minutes, unscripted and totally improved performance.
At the top of their game, four comedians perform a high-energy, surprising and hilarious improv show that has never been seen before, and will never be seen again.

Chinese New Year Gala
Oakville Chinese Network sponsor the gala that takes place on Saturday, January 19th at 7:00 PM
Fiery Youth is this year's theme.
The form of youth varies over time, but from ancient days to today, everyone's youth is fiery and everyone's youth is worth remembering.
The official start of the Chinese New Year is February 5th, which ushers in the year of the pig.

Pygmalion
This Bernard Shaw play inspired the musical "My Fair Lady".
BurlOak Theatre Group performs from Thursday January 24th to Saturday, January 26th at 8:00 PM, along with a matinée performance on Sunday, January 27th at 2:00 PM.
Pygmalion tells the story of an overlooked poor, young flower girl. She is disrespected because of her lower class dialect and disheveled appearance. Through the help of one arrogant professor, he changes her appearance and speech. During the transformation she gains confidence in her own abilities. This play dramatizes, with wit and humour, the power of one.

Celebrate Robbie Burns night on Friday, January 25th at 8:30 PM.
With traditional Celtic tunes David Leask plays soulful roots-rock originals along with high-energy covers that he makes his own to keep you grooving.
His seamless combination of looping and effect pedals deliver an amazingly rich, big sound. And, with his Scottish sense of humour, he’s a force to be heckled with!
Songwriters Magazine called David, “the most consistent Canadian songwriting competition winner.”
Also David received the Mississauga Established Performing Artist of the Year Award.

Boys, Girls & Other Mythological Creatures
This is the second school performance of this month but for students who are in Grade 1 thru 5.
Written by Mark Crawford and directed by Jessica Carmichael these actors perform on Tuesday, January 29th at 1:00 PM.
Simon invites new neighbour Abby to help save a princess in a battle against a fire-breathing dragon. Meanwhile, in reality, Simon’s older brother Zach is not so sure about all this dressing up and fairy tale business. A thoughtful and hilarious play about our ability to transform!

Direct from Elcho Island, Djuki Mala, performing a high energy and stunning fusion of traditional Yolngu Indigenous culture, contemporary pop culture and storytelling.
Since their 2007 clip of "Zorba the Greek" went viral, they’ve consistently thrilled audiences with reinterpretations of popular culture and traditional dances in a show that is a marvel of mixed media, timing, comedy and clowning, with a hefty dose of heart and soul.
