The Oakville & Milton Humane Society is excited to announce that their recent January Cat Adopt-A-Thon broke all shelter records, with an amazing 123 cats finding forever homes!
The January Adopt-A-Thon ran from January 2nd to $75 for cats and kittens 6 months of age and older. Included in the adoption fee was spay/neuter, all vaccines up to date, microchip, 6 weeks of free pet insurance courtesy of Pets Plus Us Pet Insurance and a small free bag of Hills Science Diet Cat food. The adoption protocols and procedures of remained the same during the Adopt-A-Thon as loving forever homes were found for a record number of cats.
The January Cat Adopt-A-Thon was designed to help find homes for adult cats and older kittens. The shelter was over capacity with cats after a hoarding investigation in September of 2013 resulted in over 100 cats coming into the care of the shelter. As the cats from the investigation became ready for adoption there was a real need to find homes for as many of the cats currently available as possible.
Many of the shelter’s “long term” cats, those that had called the shelter home for a year or more, found new homes during the January Cat Adopt-A-Thon. “It was really heartwarming for the staff and volunteers to see so many of our long term cats find their forever homes during the adopt-a-thon” said Stephanie Aleksich, Manager of Customer Care for the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. “We hope that while the Adopt-A-Thon is now over, people will continue to come in to meet their new best feline friend. Many of the cats from the hoarding investigation are such wonderful, sweet cats and all deserve a forever home”, said Aleksich.
