Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre hosts its 6th annual juried exhibition; a diverse display by local artists who have risen to the challenge of sharing their best work.

The entry forms are due Friday October 25th at 5:00 PM.

This year’s theme is ROOTS:

Thoughts of who we are and where we came from, what drives us and what motivates us.

Call for Entry

Artists who are residents of Halton & Peel may submit recent works in any 2D media, including:

  1. Photography
  2. Painting
  3. Drawing
  4. Printed digital illustration

Shirley Erskine

Born and raised in Quebec, Shirley Erskine started painting at a very early age and for many years was a self-taught artist.

Her formal education started at Sheridan College. She also attended the University of Toronto, Doone School of Fine Art, The Schneider School of Fine Art, The Academia des Artes.

Shirley travels throughout Canada, U.S.A., Mexico and Europe and Asia. Her extensive teaching and traveling continues to inform her work.

Her paintings are varied encompassing a wide range of subject matters and themes. Her work hangs in many private, industrial and commercial collections in Canada, U.S.A., England, Europe, Asia, United Arab Emirates and Australia.

Erksine has arranged and hung shows all over Toronto, Mississauga and Peel, and has held many private classes and workshops across Canada.

In 1997 she was selected by jury as Mississauga’s Senior Visual Artist of the Year. In 2004 she was the only Canadian artist, juried worldwide, invited to participate in a symposium in Dubai.

All of her shows have received accolades and awards. Some of her works are also included on her website: shirleyerskine.com.

Erskine continues to paint or write almost daily and is presently working on her biography. She is also a published poet.

Dick Rampen

At the age of three Dick created wax sculptures then cast in bronze. At eight he whittled wood into a zither. As a counsellor he taught the craft shop for Camp Ahmek specializing in decorated paddle.

Dick Rampen graduated with Honours from the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) with a major in painting. He is an associate professor at OCAD University and has been teaching there for thirty years where he teaches:

  1. Industrial design
  2. Prototyping and materials
  3. Sculpture with plastics
  4. Musical instrument construction and design

Also he is an industrial designer with many products and patents.

He continues to create stunning art as well as inspire his students.

Juried Exhibition Dates

The Juried Art Exhibition opens on Sunday, November 17th with a reception from 2 to 5 PM and closes on Sunday January 12th.
