Liona Boyd strums in ArtHouse Festival Series

In just over three years since Oakville’s ArtHouse began offering cost-free Arts Programs to children aged 7-11, the organization has built its network with families introduced to it through a number of community partners, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Food For Life, Halton Community Housing Corporation, the YMCA of Oakville, Children's Aid Foundation and Home Suite Hope. And while its objective has been to offer programs at all socio-economic levels, children from these partnerships and other referrals will now be considered as FRONT OF THE LINE applicants.

This is a significant 'tweaking" of  ArtHouse's focus, but they are now reaching these young people, most who would have no access to the arts if there was a cost involved.

Today ArtHouse has 12 Oakville locations where we will implement 26 After-school, Saturday, March Break and Summer Camp Programs in 2013 and they have just launched new programs in Burlington. They are very confident they will reach their goal of 500 children before the 2013 school year ends.

ARTHOUSE FESTIVAL SERIES CELEBRATES WITH CANADIAN MUSIC COMPETITION

In 2013, ArtHouse brings together some of Canada's finest young classical musicians along with some very special Canadian Music Competition Alumnae and friends. The performers are not only our country's future "stars", but ArtHouse also has many internationally acclaimed artists with them.

CMC was founded in 1958 and is the premiere organization which brings hundreds of students from across Canada together annually to compete for that coveted first prize. Once a student has won a Grand Prize at the Nationals, it often indicates a future professional career.

On Thursday May 16th at 7:30 pm at St. John’s United Church, the series’ second concert welcomes CMC Alumni, Five-time Juno Award Winner and Canada's First Lady of the Guitar, Liona Boyd, along with the vocalist and ECMA Nominated Eleanor McCain, Flutist Ron Korb, and special guests - the World Champion Oakville Children's Choir!!

In August ArtHouse showcases CMC National Prize Winners at its annual Salute to Youth. "These young superstars have already devoted thousands of hours to their love of music."

The Finale presents Two-time Juno Award recipients The Gryphon Trio, which the Globe and Mail claims as the "finest piano trio in the world". "What an event we have planned at the new Burlington Performing Arts Centre...violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon was the 1996 CMC Stepping Stone Winner.

Concert revenue supports ArtHouse Programs – seats can be purchased online by logging onto www.arthouseonline.org and go to the Festival Series Page or call ArtHouse at 905-467-8551.
