Toronto based jazz vocalist and songwriter, Luke Maxim, will be performing at the Oakville Centre for Performing Arts with special guest Oceanside on April 10.

Maxim, 25, is a graduate of Humber College’s Jazz Performance program and is best known for his incorporation of elements of R&B and Rock into his music. “I’m passionate about those [genres] of music, I love listening to them,” says Maxim “I guess it just naturally found it’s way into my music even though it’s predominately jazz.”

Maxim is a crooner, a style of jazz singer known for soft and emotional singing. The style is best attributed to famous singer Frank Sinatra. “What really turned me on to jazz and crooning was Frank Sinatra, and other great crooners like Tony Bennett and Steve Rogers,” says Maxim.

Maxim has shared the stage with Grammy and Juno nominated artists The Gipsy Kings, and Jully Black and has performed at some of Toronto’s hottest jazz clubs including The Rex, Lula Lounge, and Reservoir, and was featured during Canadian Music Week last year and will be featured again this year.

According to Maxim though, his most memorable performance was front lining at the Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts in July last year. “It was my big debut and it incorporated everything I’d done that year, recording an album, all the musical people I worked with, that show was a platform for all the success” explains Maxim.

Maxim recently released his debut album Stay as part of his performance at the Jazz Bistro on March 31.

“I hope I can put Toronto even more with my success.”
