Masterworks of Oakville Chorus & Orchestra is pleased to be performing with local Oakville soprano Gillian Grossman this weekend. Our concert programme includes Faure Requiem with Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen and Credo from the Berlin Mass, by Arvo Part. Both concerts will take place at the beautiful St Johns United Church in downtown Oakville, at 262 Randall St. Concerts are Saturday April 12 at 8pm and Sunday April 13 at 3 pm.

Ms. Grossman has been living in Oakville since 2008, and is fully immersed in the Oakville music community maintaining a vocal studio as well as performing with Shoestring Opera, a children's opera company that recently performed at the Oakville Library.

"Settling in Oakville has allowed me the space to establish a private vocal studio, which I run out of my home. I particularly enjoy teaching adults who always have had a passion for music and singing. I teach to a wide range of levels from absolute novice to established chorister. Teaching has been an extremely rewarding experience both professionally and personally for me as it has not only reaffirmed my own singing and technique, but has lead to some wonderful friendships," says Ms. Grossman.

Ms.Grossman will be joined by additional soloist Matthew Cassils, Baritone.

In 2006 when Masterworks last performed Fauré we heard it with the Bach Cantata that contains the famous Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring. This time around we're going for music that more closely matches Fauré's aesthetic; the short credo by Arvo Pärt is a wonderful way to open and Morton Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna is the spiritual heir to Fauré's serenity and tranquility. Its updated harmonies speak eloquently to the soul of our time. Fresh harmonies and a focus on communicating the words are a perfect foil for the program's larger work. It's important that we occasionally hear works by living composers, and I guarantee that our audience will be very pleased by these modern masters.

Tickets are $30 adults, $25 seniors, $20 student/child. Tickets can be purchased online at www.masterworksofoakville.ca.
