Musikay celebrates the number 7

The number 7 is associated with magic and things mystical. It is also known as the lucky number 7. All of these attributes perfectly describe Musikay’s new concert season.

This year’s programming includes the magic of the human voice with its infinite colours and variations. When it comes to the music of J.S. Bach, one can only think of his genius and his works as magical—he can equally turn simple tunes and unbelievably complex melodies into musical gems with mystical qualities.

Our seventh season of concerts in Oakville looks like it will be a lucky one. We perform music by seven of the greatest composers. We have some new, dedicated, and fantastic professional singers. We have a new format for our concerts which includes some visuals. We now offer a pre-concert “chat and tea” to share insights into the music presented. We also have a few surprises.

As part of this season we also offer a number of educational opportunities. In September and December we offer workshops to help singers improve their learning and performing skills. We invite all singers to join in two sing-alongs—one in November and one in April.

Our first concert, on November 8, is centred around the beautiful painting of the Mona Lisa. The music performed is all from the renaissance period, a time of great visual and musical art.

On December 20, we present our annual Messiah performance. Nothing makes Handel’s music shine more then when performed by the intimate setting and demonstrative passion of Musikay. Bring your family to this wonderful Christmas tradition.

We close our season with two Bach motets and the Kyrie from his B minor mass. Accompanying the music of this genius are a mass for four voices and a Te Deum by his contemporaries Campra and Charpentier. We are also honoured to perform Three motets by Canadian composer Allan Bevan.

Make this special 7 a lucky one for you and join us for some fantastic music and singing.
