The Lovelocks, a local Oakville band were nominated for the 2017 Roots Artist of Year Canadian Country Music Award
, which were handed out on September 10, 2017 in SaskTel Centre, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The recipient of the 2017 Roots Artist of the year award was The Washboard Union.
The Lovelocks, a musical duo deliver soaring vocals, sweet harmonies, with sultry strings. Zoë Sparrow grew up and went to school in Oakville, and Ali Raney grew up in Mississauga. Their friendship began when they both joined the "The Meeting House" a church in Oakville.
The Lovelocks formed in 2017 and started off by building their set as well as playing at the Moonshine Cafe in Kerr Village, a beehive for musicians creating original music. Oakville really was the birth place of the Lovelocks. "Let’s go with Home Sweet Home" was their first top 40 single on Canadian country radio and the band has been on an incredible ride ever since.
The band was thrilled for their fourth Canadian Country Music Award nomination in a row. In 2014 they won the Discovery Series at the CCMA.
"Nominations truly never get old and we are so grateful to the CCMA community for supporting artists like us," stated the band. "We spend all year hustling behind-the-scenes on our craft - songwriting, recording, touring, sitting in boardroom meetings with our team, dreaming up all these huge, sometimes intangible dreams that may or may not ever see the light of day."
Their next shows will be in Saskatchewan, revolving around Country Music Week, but they hope to be back in Oakville very soon.

This award is presented to an act (solo, duo or group) in the Canadian country music industry whose music is based on traditional country styles, but through innovations and originality is different from what is considered “mainstream country”. Roots music embraces a multitude of musical styles, including but not limited to Alternative Country, Bluegrass, Celtic, Country-Blues, Folk, Gospel, Hillbilly, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and Western Swing.
