The Oakville Symphony Orchestra has just two more concerts remaining. This  season continues to be devoted to Oakville and, more particularly, the musicians who have called Oakville home. Indeed the entire season is entitled “Come Home To The Symphony”.

Oakville’s own Leslie Ashworth will thrill our audiences with her rendition of Mendelssohn’s popular violin concerto. Beethoven’s dramatic overture CORIOLAN and Dvorak’s tuneful Symphony No. 6 will round out this program of exciting works for large orchestra. The performance is called "The Romantic Violin" and will take place on Saturday April 5th at 8:00 PM and Sunday April 6th at 2:00 PM.

Leslie is a child protege who first picked up the violin at age five, and since then has taken the classical music world by storm. In 2012 she played at Carnegie Hall as the "Passion for Music" gold medalist, and in 2010 she was the grand prize winner of the "Canadian Music Competition". At age 17 she continues to tour extensively and hopes to attend Juilliard or Curtis.

An Oakville feast of music and talent is featured in the season-ending program. Former residents Chelsey Schill and Adrian Fung, and current resident and OSO principal flautist Joan Browne will perform. The Symphony premieres a new work written by Oakville composer Hunter Coblentz (currently completing a Master’s Degree in Composition at the Royal College of Music in London). A thrilling and fabulous end to a very special season at the Symphony. The season finale will take place on Saturday May 10 at 8:00 PM and Sunday May 11 at 2:00 PM.

Two free children's concerts remain. The next concert on February 15th called "Meet a Cellist" will provide children ages four to nine with an opportunity  to listen to a 30 minute concert with principal cellist Jose Shapero at either 10 AM or 11 AM. The final children's concert will take place on Saturday March 29th featuring Nancy Nelson the principal oboist with the Oakville Symphony Orchestra.  Both concerts are held in the lobby of the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, so space is limited.
