This past weekend, Oakville witnessed vibrant festivities in the Towne Square as mothers from all over the community were celebrated. It was the second annual 'Spring Bloom' co-ordinated by the Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area's (BIA).
The Downtown Oakville BIA commitment is to create and host events and celebrations. There will be a wide variety of activities this summer. 'Spring bloom' was a free-to-attend community driven event set up in efforts to celebrate Mother's Day on May 11th and 12th.
A live band serenaded mothers and other guests. They were also treated to an assortment of delicacies like biscuits, gluten-free cupcakes, cookies, and tea bars.
"All the food is provided by businesses in the district," said Milan Bowie, BIA Marketing Manager. "We wanted to something to celebrate Mothers' Day and also engage the community. We want people to know that this event is open to everyone, there's no reservations required, no fees, and it's a feel-good event to come out to and celebrate your mom and moms everywhere!"
Local businesses that sponsored Spring Bloom snacks were:
- British Grocer - Biscuits and tea bars.
- Sugar Sweets - Gluten free options.
- Sweet bites- Cupcakes
- Black Forest Pastry Shop - A favourite of Downtown Oakville providing sugar cookies, brownie sugars and many other flavours of cookies.
Over 1,000 people attended making the event a success, and spoke to the jubilation with which Oakvillians honoured mothers on their special day.
Additional events this summer in Downtown Oakville include the renowned 'Sumer Series' festival, which is a host of open-air movie screenings taking place on a brand new venue at George Street North. Furthermore, the BIA elevates TD Songs of the Summer Series, a weekly music event set to include a wide variety of music genres every Friday. Keep a look out for more to do this summer.
