The Oakville Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce our upcoming concert featuring the winners of our inaugural Youth Concerto Competition.

Ji Soo Choi, our Senior Category winner, is an Oakville resident currently studying at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. A former T.A. Blakelock high school student, Ms. Choi is an award-winning musician of amazing talent. In 2013, she was the National Grand Prize Winner of the Canadian Music Competition. Ms. Choi has performed with the HYUP Orchestra, the Academy Chamber Orchestra at the Taylor Academy, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke.

Our Junior category winner, Emma Meinrenken, is also an award-winning violinist. Since she started playing the violin at the age of 4, Emma has won top awards and prizes in many music festivals and competitions, including the 1st place Award in the Canadian Music Competition (CMC) for four years in a row as well as the Grand Prize Award in the CMC National Finals in 2012. More recently, in 2013, Emma won 1st place at the 3rd Stradivarius International Violin Competition in U.S.A. At age 10, Emma made her debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Needless to say, our audience is guaranteed to be amazed by their extraordinary talent as we celebrate these young performers during our last concert of our 30th anniversary season!

It is a delight for the OCO and myself to perform the very first grand prizewinners' concert, from our inaugural annual concerto competition. The excitement and extreme talent that these young performers bring, is impressive, captivating and infectious. Not only is it our pleasure to hear them play here in our concerts, but we can be happy to have created a process that recognizes their gifts and assists them in gaining experience performing with orchestra.

The Youth Concerto Competition is part of the OCO's commitment to celebrating and cultivating young talent. Finalists of our second concerto competition will be announced soon, with finals taking place on June 8, 2:30 pm at Remenyi House of Music, 210 Bloor St West in Toronto. Public is welcome to attend. We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in the funding of our Concerto Competition. Concerto Competition presenting sponsor is Manulife Securities.
