Well everyone….the countdown is on. On May 3rd, in just over a month, Oakville Parent-Child Centre will be hosting its 3rd Annual Learn & Grow Together Parenting Conference. Registration is now open. Just go to www.op-pc.ca, click on the flyer image and follow the prompts.

Parenting is such important work; in fact our future depends on it (no pressure for you moms and dads out there).Things have changed and we all want information and support to ensure our children get off to a great start. This conference is a fantastic way to bring parents of children newborn to 6 years together; to mobilize their energy, passion, insight and thirst for learning and meld it with the knowledge, enthusiasm and understanding of seasoned, professional and expert facilitators.

Organizing a conference has been an idea percolating at OPCC for several years. Three years ago, it came to fruition through much hard work and organization, and I assure you, there is no looking back. I am confident this is something that we will continue to offer to the community. The first two conferences have been well received and we have had tremendous feedback from families that say it was a great opportunity for learning and reflection. Parents enjoyed the camaraderie, high caliber speakers, and let’s not forget the opportunity to spend a few hours out of the house and away from the kids. Last year we added a light lunch to the conference agenda. Lunch provided not only sustenance to get through the day, but an opportunity for parents to gather, share and feel part of something bigger.

Last October I attended a workshop featuring Jennifer Kolari. I knew within minutes of hearing her talk that you needed to meet her too, and we had to have her as part of this year’s conference. Happily, I can tell you that Jennifer is indeed our keynote this year (yay!). Jennifer is a family and child therapist and author of “Connected Parenting: How to Raise a Great Kid”. She will enlighten and entertain you as she shares the wisdom and strategies of the Connected Parenting approach. After Jennifer fires up your learning brain, you will have the opportunity to attend two additional 90 minutes workshops (which you will choose the day of the conference). I am currently recruiting facilitators for workshops and am very excited about the topics you will have to choose from, and the experts you will be meeting and learning from. More details on the workshops will follow in a couple of weeks.

Here are 3 reasons you should register today, for the May 3, 2014 OPCC Learn & Grow Together Conference:

    1. You will leave with renewed excitement, practical ideas and perspectives that will help you to raise your children.

    2. Reconnect with old friends or make new ones.

    3. Feel part of a parenting community where people share humor, common interests, experiences and challenges.

Two bonus reasons (in case you need more) the conference is free of charge thanks to the RBC Foundation, and the conference is 2/3 full already. We only have about 50 spaces left.

Don’t delay. Register today. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call me at (905)849-6366 ext. 22. See you on May 3rd!
