I recently paid a visit to Ripley's Aquarium, one of Toronto's newest attractions. The aquarium features over 15,000 animals including green sea turtles, sharks, and jellyfish to name a few. With several different exhibits, Ripley's Aquarium has something for everyone.
The first gallery is called Canadian Waters. Without giving too much away, Canadian Waters has 17 exhibits totalling over 665,000 litres of water! Included are the Pacific Kelp Exhibit as well as the Great Lakes Exhibit. Next up we have the Discovery Centre. There are three exhibits in the Discovery Centre which include Clownfish, Surgeonfish, Horseshoe Crabs and more! Next is the Ray Bay. As you can probably tell by the name, this exhibit is all about rays. There are many different types of rays in this exhibit which come from three different species. After the Ray Bay comes Rainbow Reef. This beautiful exhibit features many types of tropical fish including the Emperor Angelfish, Picasso Triggerfish and Unicorn Surgeonfish. Next up, The Touch Tanks, a crowd favourite at Ripley's. Guests are able to reach out and touch an array of fish including Whitespotted Bamboo Sharks, Brownbanded Bamboo Sharks, Spotted Eagle Rays and Atlantic Stingrays. Next we have Dangerous Lagoon, my personal favourite exhibit at Ripley's. As soon as you walk in to Dangerous Lagoon there is a moving sidewalk which takes you through the entire 2.5 million litre exhibit. The exhibit features two species of shark (sand tiger shark, sandbar shark), sea turtles, roughtail stingray and more. After Dangerous Lagoon is The Gallery, an exhibit which focuses on the fragile eco-systems around the world. Featured in this exhibit are the Red lionfish, Electric eel and seahorses. Last but not least we have Planet Jellies. Planet Jellies features 7 different jellyfish habitats. Included in these habitats are the Pacific Sea Nettle, Moon Jelly, Spotted Lagoon Jelly and the Upside-down Jelly.
If you're looking for a fun day I highly recommend you check out Ripley's Aquarium, you won't regret it! The Aquarium is open 365 days a years from 9 am – 9 pm up to January 5 ,2013. So a perfect day trip from Oakville, and just a short walk from Union Station.
