The dance is organized through the secondary school Positive Space clubs throughout the Halton District School, which include teachers, students, administrators, program leaders, support staff, parents and community members.

“This is certainly an example of a promising future when our students are the leaders for social justice and social change,” said Yaw Obeng, Superintendent of Education with the Halton District School Board. “We are proud to be supporting this event that promotes inclusion among our student population, and beyond.”

The dance will include a special guest performance by Trevor Copp of the Tottering Biped Theatre, creator of the same-sex ballroom dance performance, First Dance. Last year’s inaugural Pride dance attracted 350 students.

Students from all Halton secondary schools are invited to attend. They will be able to purchase their tickets starting on May 1, 2015 from secondary schools and from the Positive Space Network of Halton.

The Positive Space Network’s LGBTQ22+ Youth Action Committee is sponsoring a ‘pay what you can’ ticket price for a limited number of students. Contact Marcus Logan at [email protected] for further information about purchasing tickets. Interested students must show a valid student identification card.

Halton’s Second Annual LGBTQ2 Pride Dance is taking place Thursday May 21, 2015 from 7-10 p.m. at Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School (3040 Tim Dobbie Drive, Burlington).
