Sheridan alumni’s impact on the Canadian media scene was acknowledged last week, when two graduates won Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs). The CSAs celebrate Canadian productions and talent in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes in film, television and digital media.

This year’s winners are Kieran McKay (Computer Animation ’09) in the Best Visual Effects category for the program Vikings: The Last Ship. John Simpson (Media Arts ’05) also won for Best Talk Program or Series as part of the team behind The Marilyn Denis Show.

“Congratulations to our alumni who won CSAs this year,” says Ronni Rosenberg, Dean of Sheridan’s Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “Our graduates are truly the best ambassadors of the rich talent our programs nurture, and it’s wonderful to see how they are influencing Canadian media.”

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television presented the CSAs last week during a series of events that culminated in a gala held on March 13 in Toronto. Sheridan alumni received a total of 30 nominations for this year’s CSAs. This year’s candidates represented three decades of Sheridan graduates from programs ranging from web design and media arts to animation.
