Sheridan’s Board of Governors held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday, reflecting back on efforts over the past year to ensure that Sheridan’s strategic objectives and outcomes are met, its assets are protected, and its long-term growth and sustainability are assured.
Among the list of highlights was a unanimous decision by the Board of Governors to secure the leadership of Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, President and CEO of Sheridan for a second term beginning in early 2015 and concluding in 2022.
Dr. Zabudsky’s first term began in June, 2010 and concludes in February 2015. Shortly after his arrival, Sheridan’s Board of Governors approved the institution’s strategic plan and its ambition to become Sheridan University.
“This renewal is a reflection of the Board’s tremendous satisfaction with Dr. Zabudsky in leading an institution that operates four sites in three cities, is rapidly growing, and outperforming all of the provincial standards for key performance indicators,” explains Mr. Bryan Dawson, Chair of Sheridan’s Board of Governors. “The decision also reflects our tremendous confidence that Dr. Zabudsky is the right individual to lead Sheridan during this important juncture in its history.”

Over the past several months, Sheridan has secured the endorsement for its university vision from Brampton City Council, Peel Regional Council, Halton Regional Council and Oakville Town Council. “Jeff continues to be the public face of our journey,” says Dawson. “As someone who himself needed to create his own pathway from undergraduate to doctoral education, Jeff understands the needs of learners and our ambition to create a seamless educational experience for students in Ontario.”
“I am delighted to accept this opportunity to see Sheridan’s journey through to completion,” says Dr. Zabudsky. “Sheridan has always been known for innovation in higher education. We’ve been first out of the gate with niche programs like a Bachelor of Interaction Design and a Bachelor of Information Systems Security. We continue to push the boundaries by formalizing opportunities for students to develop the creative problem solving skills they’ll need to navigate the rapid pace of change that defines our society. Sheridan University is the next step in our ongoing evolution. We’re building on our strengths to make sure we continue to meet the needs of students, industry and our communities.”
Other Sheridan highlights to note during Dr. Zabudsky’s first term include: the establishment of 10 new degrees in business, arts, digital media and mobile computing; the creation of two new diplomas in plumbing and electrical; the opening of Sheridan’s Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga and laying the groundwork to develop Phase II; building a second residence to double capacity for on-campus student housing in Oakville; and gaining internationally-recognized memberships in the National Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate (CDIO).
