The Town of Oakville will continue its operations to clean up from last weekend’s ice storm throughout the Christmas holidays. Forestry crews will be working on December 25 and 26 to inspect the damage reported by the public, and priority is being given to the cleanup of hydro wires, driveways, roads and sidewalks. The town received over 500 requests for service over the past two days and will reopen its ServiceOakville call centre at 905-845-6601 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 26 and 27 to take further calls.
Due to the risk of falling tree limbs, residents are advised that town trails and woodlots will remain closed until further notice. Park cleanup is scheduled to begin in January after priority calls are completed. It is expected that the cleanup of all damaged trees will take several weeks to complete. Trails will reopen once they have been inspected and any broken or hanging limbs have been removed.
Power outages
There are less than 150 homes still without power in Oakville. Oakville Hydro is working with the homeowners to resolve these outages. When you go out or go to sleep, always blow out the candles. The Ontario Fire Marshal has posted a number of safety precautions that should be followed during a power outage.
Emergency bulk brush collection
The Town of Oakville and Halton Region will be providing enhanced bulk brush collection services to Oakville residents from January 6 to January 31, 2014. Residents may place bulk brush with branches a maximum of 7.5 cm (3 in) in diameter and 2 m (6.5 ft) long out on their regular garbage collection day. Larger branches and stumps can be brought to the Halton Waste Management Site until January 31, 2014 free of charge or can be piled separately for pick up by the Town of Oakville as weather permits.
