The world is changing so quickly and our lives move at a fast pace. There never seems to be enough time. We can thrive with the excitement of a challenge. Equally, we need to also take a moment to reflect and appreciate the big picture. The 17 artists included in this exhibition offer a chance to contemplate the question of immediacy versus the long view.
The still waters of a pond surrounded by wild flowers in Ewa Stryjnik’s “Garden Studies #171” is a quiet, gentle approach to the cycle of life. Flowers from the past are faded into a misty background while the new generation springs up to take a place at the forefront of the piece. There is an understanding that the past continues plays a compositional role to the support the current view.
By distinct contrast, Hanna Ruminski’s painting, “Not Too Far” is a landscape built of letters from texts and emails that come at us from all directions, all the time. They completely fill our personal space. There is a distinct beauty in the layer upon layer of letters that build the composition. She re-imagines our personal space and shows us how our lives are built around communication.
The exhibition "The Big Picture" will take place at the Trias Gallery at 11 Bronte Road until June 23rd.
