On Friday, October 28, 2016 the Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition will host their annual meeting in Oakville. Mental health advocates Dr. Ian Dawe and Mark Henrick will present their perspectives on resiliency to highlight the importance of building a skill-set that helps us endure hardship, stress and unexpected challenges in life. The free event is open to all Halton residents, and will take place at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Road, Oakville, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition plays an integral role in Halton, bringing together individuals, agencies and healthcare providers to address the difficult issue of suicide. Promoting resilience to build mental well-being is just one more way the coalition is making a positive impact on our community.
Dr. Ian Dawe, Program Chief and Medical Director of Mental Health of Trillium Health Partners, and Chair of the Ontario Hospital Association’s Suicide Prevention Standards Task Force, will discuss “A Zero Suicide Approach in Healthcare”. Mark Henick, Program Manager for Mental Health Works at Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Ontario, will share personal and professional experiences that demonstrate resilience. His talk, titled “Getting to Know Thyself”, is about embracing our vulnerability, tuning into our psychological needs and living every day as an advocate for mental health.

The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition provides leadership, advocacy and education to the Halton community on suicide awareness, prevention, intervention and postvention. The coalition is a collaboration of 30 organizations and agencies from across Halton, as well as interested individuals and survivors of suicide throughout the region.
