On Sunday November 17, 2013 at 10:44 p.m., a citizen contacted police requesting they attend the River Oaks neighbourhood located at Upper Middle Road and Oak Springs Crescent.

Upon arrival, police encountered a man and an interaction occurred that necessitated the notification of the Ontario Special Investigations Unit. The police approached and  man who was seated in a car. The man exited the car and an altercation took place. The police felt it was necessary to discharge their weapon at the man. The man was pronounced dead just after mid-night.

The S.I.U. has invoked their mandate and will be conducting an investigation, who are called in when police action is required to be reviewed.

A portion of Upper Middle Road from Trafalgar Road to Sixth Line will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the investigation, and should now re-open at 5:00 PM.
