The 2018 provincial election is just a few days away. Doug Ford, Andrea Horwarth, and Kathleen Wynne are all scrambling around the province trying to shore up support. Oakville riding candidates: Stephen Crawford, Kevin Flynn, and Lesley Sprague signs are up and those that need it are being repaired. Now their focus is to get their supporters to vote.

During the last few months, we’ve interviewed the Conservative, Liberal, and NDP candidates for the Oakville Provincial Riding. Candidates were not asked about party positions or policy, but about themselves and their perspectives about what Oakville needs.

Oakville Riding Candidates

Kevin Flynn – Liberal

Important issues:

  1. Retain the character of the town
  2. Protecting Green Space
  3. Maintaining and growing Oakville’s strong Economy
  4. Attracting investment

What do you bring:.

  1. Comprehensive understanding of government having been a Town councillor, Halton Regional Councillor, MPP, and the Ontario Minister of Labour.
  2. Successfully helped residents navigate town, regional and provincial governments
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of local and regional budgets
  4. Comprehensive knowledge on how to protect greenspace: Deerfield Golf Course and Glen Abbey Golf Course
  5. Successfully supported health facilities for residents: New Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and ErinOakKids Treatment Centre
  6. Worked with Bronte community to decommission Shell oil processing facility, which dramatically improved the air quality in Bronte
  7. Leading 1679 government employees

Lesley Sprague – NDP

  3. Increasing transit use
  4. Mental health

What do you bring:

  1. Graduated as a Personal Support Worker from Sheridan College
  2. Worked for the BC Ministry of the Environment where she created a database to monitor and a licensing system for toxic waste.
  3. Combined three separate acts into one for the BC Ministry of Transportation
  4. The president Oakville NDP Riding Association for 3 years
  5. Used community supports to rise out of homelessness

  3. Protecting Green space with an emphasis on Glen Abbey

  1. Consultative approach by bringing divergent groups to consensus
  2. Strong understanding of how to build successful businesses after helping grow two businesses.
  3. Strong leadership skills: hiring 100 plus employees and managing 50 as a senior sales executive with a Financial Funds company.
  4. Strong advocate for community groups: Because I’m a Girl and 100 Guys Who Care
  5. Board member of the Federal Conservative Oakville Riding Association
