Oakville Sea Cadets: CANSAIL 1

IMG_00000085The sail program called CANSAIL is a new program put out by the Canadian Sailing Association. CANSAIL 1 is the first level of a possible five levels. With level 4 they become an Instructor. Level 5 is for racing.

The Canadian Cadet Organization’s sail program is based on the Canadian Sailing Association rules and regulations. We sent 8 cadets to our Sail Centre #12 in Port Credit. They were there last weekend and will return this weekend in order to obtain the CANSAIL 1 level and badge for their uniform. The 8 cadets are: Leading Seaman Matthew Baranyai, Leading Seaman Hannah McKay,Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Oakden, Leading Seaman Constantinos Zoes, Ordinary Seaman Anastasia Zoes, Able Seaman A. Qi and Leading Seaman Alan Atkinson.

IMG_00000084All sea cadets wanting to work their way up to Petty Officer 1st Class must have, at a minimum, the CANSAIL 1 sail level.  Thus all sea cadets do learn how to sail as part of the Sea Cadet Program.

Anyone interested in joining the Oakville Sea Cadet Corps, between the ages of 12 and 19, can call 905 464 0674, email 178sea@cadets.gc.ca or visit our Web site at oakvilleseacadets.ca. There is no costs to join sea cadets.
