Cycle Oakville is gearing up for an exciting season, and recently filled a room at Town Hall for a meeting to celebrate cycling in Oakville, its accomplishments over the last year, and to share ideas for 2014.

Jamie Stuckless, Manager, Youth Education, Share the Road Cycling Coalition, spoke about the organization's new UCycle program – a community partnership engaging Sheridan College in cycling education and initiatives.

The positive energy in the room was palpable, as participants broke in to groups to brainstorm ideas. Participants then shared their ideas, and discussed ways to put them in to action. As a result, many of these initiatives will see the light this year.

The Oakville Community Foundation was on hand as Cycle Oakville announced the launch of its new website, www.cycleoakville.ca, made possible because of a grant from Oakville Community Foundation's Environment Fund.

In 2014, residents can look forward to new social rides and the return of last year's favourites, continued co-operation with Oakville businesses, route maps, partnerships with the YMCA and beginner repair clinics.

The first social bicycle ride be a Kidical Mass Easter Ride taking place as part of the Bronte BIA Easter event on April 19th. Families can meet at the gazebo in Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park at 11:00 am, with an expected departure for a short little fun ride at 11:30 am.

The second planned ride will take place on Mothers Day, Sunday, May 11th, with the Second Annual CycloFemme ride starting at Gairloch Gardens at 2:00 pm. This leisurely ride will take side streets to arrive at Lakeside Park, and is open to all ages and abilities.

In partnership with Racer Sportif, several bike clinics are planned beginning on April 30th. These clinics will be held at Racer Sportif, 151 Robinson Street, and will give people more confidence to ride their bikes. Included will be basic bike repair, education and safety.

More information on the rides and clinics can be found in the events section of www.cycleoakville.ca or on the facebook page www.facebook.com/cycleoakville.
