Blades Acquire Veteran Austin Broadhurst From Mississauga

The Oakville Blades are pleased to announce that the club has acquired defenseman Austin Broadhurst from the Mississauga Chargers in exchange for defenseman Ryan Markovic.

Broadhurst adds a wealth of experience to a team looking to make a long playoff run in the spring. Having already played three seasons with the Wellington Dukes, the 20-year-old joined the Chargers this past August and has excelled ever since. In 32 games this season, Broadhurst has potted seven goals and 20 points for his best offensive season to date.

The playmaking blue-liner has also seen some action in big time games. Last season, Broadhurst was a member of the Dukes team that played in the Dudley Hewitt Cup, the Central Canadian Junior A Championships. Earlier this season, Broadhurst was a member of Team Oates at the Central Canada Cup, joining Ryan Garvey and Jackson Bales as tournament champions.

“Austin is a veteran defenseman who's played in big games before,” Blades General Manager Mike Daley said. “His experience, size and talent will help our team have a better opportunity to advance in the playoffs. We felt with the strength of our core and the players graduating we needed to give ourselves the best chance for a long playoff run and believe adding Austin does that while at the same time it offers Ryan Markovic the minutes and development opportunity that may not have been available in Oakville down the stretch. We wish Ryan the best in the future and welcome Austin to the Blades family.”
